We
have put this website together to benefit our patients
and those who are considering cosmetic surgery. We are
concerned that much of the information about cosmetic
surgery in the popular media can be, at best, misleading.
The decision to have cosmetic surgery is a serious one
and should only be made by a fully informed patient. So,
we hope this information will answer many of your questions
and, more importantly, pose others.
First of all, one should
ask, "What do I want to achieve through cosmetic
surgery?" "Is
having some surgical alteration a direct link to whatever
goal I hope to reach?" Probably, not! While good,
youthful looks can open some doors, an individual must
bring other, often nonphysical, qualities to a situation
to be successful. Relying on some surgical procedure to
correct interpersonal difficulties or to get that much
coveted job or promotion can lead to disappointment. Expecting
a complete physical transformation through cosmetic surgery
is also unfounded. There are simply limitations as to
what cosmetic surgery can do. Physical appearance can
be improved and made more youthful, but the face or body
of the 20-year-old are gone forever. While the improvement
in some feature or part can be dramatic, the best results
are those that are subtle enough so that friends can tell
that you look wonderful but can't identify what has changed.

The main point here is
that successful outcomes are based, mainly, on realistic
expectations. This will depend on the patient's understanding
of the procedure or procedures (hence, the writing of
this website) and the level of communication between patient
and surgeon.
We emphasize the communication
between you and your surgeon beginning in the initial
consultation. This is when Dr. Dyas can personally answer
questions specific to your case, the ones that can't be
covered in this website, and assess whether cosmetic surgery
is the best route for you. If so, Dr Dyas will recommend
the best surgical approach and may recommend another procedure
or procedures you hadn't considered. Remember, he looks
at the totality of the relationship between structures
or features. A change in one may affect the appearance
of another. Dr Dyas will also frankly discuss any risk
or risks associated with the procedure or procedures you
contemplate. No surgery is risk-free! Complications, even
very serious ones, can and do occur; fortunately, they
are rare at the hands of qualified medical personnel.
You will also learn more about the healing process and
what you can reasonably expect in terms of outcome. Armed
with this knowledge, you and your surgeon can then decide
if cosmetic surgery is the right option for you to pursue.
